Njeguši

The center of Njeguš is Njeguško polje, which the locals call simply Polje. Spacious and fertile, it represents a tame living oasis in Katun stone. The location itself, the proximity of Kotor and the sea caused it to have great economic and political importance in the past, for Njeguše, Cetinje and, through it, a large part of Montenegro.

Small place of great importance for Montenegro

There are permanent settlements and hamlets along the field, its perimeter, and the immediate surroundings: Žanjev Do, Mirac, Kopito, Dugi Do, Erakovici, Raicevici, Vrba, Velji Kraj, Veliki and Mali Zalazi, Mirac. These settlements form individual brotherhoods (with special features) that built their church and cemetery there, and the most famous and largest are Erakovici and Raicevici. The number of church buildings is one of the special features of Njeguš, so it is the place with the most churches (until the Second World War there were 17, while today there are 15). These are: Saint Nicholas, Saint George, Saint Sava, Saint Nedelja, Saint God, Saint George, Saint Michael, Saint Nicholas, Saint Friday, Saint George, Saint Jeremiah, Saint .Vraca, St. John, St. Ðorde, St. Transfiguration. Njeguši is the cradle of the tribe of the same name, which had a significant role in history, providing prominent bishops and rulers to the Montenegrin state from the Petrovica dynasty. A complex of relative houses made of hewn stone are grouped along the main road that leads from Kotor to Cetinje and back. There is Njegoš's birth house, the Petrovica tower house, the house of Rada Petrovica and Toma Petrovica.
